263rd Executive Committee Meeting held on 3rd February 2017 at 6.30 p.m at Gyanjees Advaita, Sirsi Bindaika Road, Near Maharshi Arvind College, Jaipur.

The Ministry of Mines, Govt. of India vide notification dated 4th March 2016 has constituted a sub-committee under the chairmanship of Dr Niranjan K Singh, Joint Secretary Ministry of Mines Govt. of India to look into the problems and challenges being faced by the Granite Mining Industry. The first meeting has been fixed on 11th March 2016 at 11.00 AM in the Committee Room of the Commissionerate of Geology and Mines, Government of Karnataka, Bangalore.

The following agenda points were discussed during the meeting :
»  Sizes and Terms of the Granite mining leases in respect of different States.
»  Rate of royalty and dead rent prevalent in different states.
»  Issue of grant of fresh quarry leases and renewal of existing leases.
»  Lack of uniformity in VAT which ranges from 5 % to 15 % across the states.
»  Tare-weight limit for transportation of granite blocks by road.
»  Issue of recovery percentage from granite quarries.
»  Dumping of mineral waste.
»  Environmental issues.

On behalf of the Federation, Sri. S. Krishna Prasad, Vice President, Sri. N.K. Aswathrama, General Secretary and Sri. K.B. Munivenkata Swamy, CEO attended the meeting.

Further, on 5th March 2016 Dr. Niranjan K. Singh, Joint Secretary alongwith Sri. Sri. N.K. Aswathrama, General Secretary and Sri. K.B. Munivenkata Swamy, CEO visited some quarries and processing units in and around Bengaluru.
